November 1 througfh Novembe 30 2016

A minor G1-class geomagnetic storm is underway on Oct. 29th as Earth continues to pass through a stream of high-speed solar wind. Conditions should quiet later this weekend as our planet begins to exit the stream. Until then, Arctic sky watchers should remain alert for auroras. During this week's solar wind event, observers around the Arctic Circle reported auroras of an unusual color. "Crazy pink," says Frank Meissner, who photographed the phenomenon on Oct. 26th from Tromsø, Norway: see at: http://spaceweather.com/.

This from the Old Farmer's Almanac: The Full Moon on November 14, 2016 will be an extraordinary sight! It will appear as the largest and brightest Moon in the sky since 1948-and in many people's lifetime. Specifically, November's Full Moon is a "Perigee" Moon-when the Moon reaches the point in its orbit that is closest to Earth. This is popularly called a "Supermoon."  In addition, this Supermoon will also be nearer to Earth than it's been since January 26, 1948. While the Moon won't technically be getting any bigger, it will appear up to 14% larger than when it is at its furthest point. Further, the full Moon of November 14 is not only the closest full Moon of 2016 but also the closest full Moon to date in the 21st century and it won't come this close to Earth again until November 25, 2034. Besides appearing large and bright in the sky, this extra-close Supermoon will also have a more dramatic effect on the tides. The one downside is that such a bright Full Moon will largely wipe out the year's famous Geminid Meteor Showers five to tenfold. With the Moonlight competing with the meteor showers, we'll be lucky to see a dozen per hour.  In partnership with Slooh, The Old Farmer's Almanac will broadcast an observatory show on SUNDAY, November 13, 2016 at 7:00 PM EDT http://www.almanac.com/content/full-moon-november. During this live show, Almanac astronomer Bob Berman, will help us understand why the Moon hasn't appeared this large in such a long time. Editor Janice Stillman will also discuss the folklore associated with the November Moon. November's full Moon was called the Beaver Moon by both the colonists and the Algonquin tribes because this was the time to set beaver traps before the swamps froze, to ensure a supply of warm winter furs. It was also called the Full Frost Moon by Native Americans.

Adventure with Hurricane Matthew

Three of us went on our third annual trek to the Edgar Cayce/A.R.E. Ancient Mysteries/Ancient Civilization conference in Virginia Beach, between Thursday October 6 and Sunday October 9. Hurricane Matthew was lashing the East Coast of America. The weather channel said it would either go out to sea or turn around to pound Florida again. Well it came up the coast and affected Virginia Beach as a Catagory 1. The entire time the transiting planets were in quincunx to my natal planets, which means things do not go as expected, and they did not. There was a beautiful sextile, though, from Venus to my natal Neptune, revealing the opportunity for a lovely time which I had.

(I don't know why this first paragraph will not display the correct font.)

Thursday we drove south the length of the state of Delaware, the Eastern Shore of Maryland and Virginia, across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel to Virginia Beach; a five-hour drive. The concern was if the Bridge Tunnel would be open. It was. We figured that once we got there, we could deal with the hurricane. I stayed at a hotel that has been there for at least 40 years and weathered hurricanes, so I knew I would be okay. Thursday for dinner we stopped on our way at Bubba's in Virginia Beach to have the best she-crab soup and rockfish ever.

Friday morning, the scheduled speaker became ill, so Adrian Geoffey Gilbert gave a preview of his new book, the manuscript of which is not even at the publisher's. Being an astrologer, I found his information new and fascinating. Mr. Gilbert is an astronomer/astrologer who has dated the beginning of the Age of Aquarius to the summer solstice, June 21, 2000.

Friday the weather acted up with wind and rain. We went to Bubba's for dinner, with the car wading through a flooded road. The road to and from Bubba's is a divided highway with two lanes each way, going through beautiful woods. We saw two cars stuck in the meridian, which is lower than the road. Many houses had flooded yards, which are lower than the road. We had a great dinner and headed back to the evening presentation. The road going back was flooded deeper than the one going out, but we made it.

Saturday was the day to have our books autographed and pictures taken with the authors. Mine were two books for Jerry Silva and five for Adrian Gilbert. Giorgio does not write books, but signs his bumper stickers, which I had signed last year. John vanAuken has many books, most of which I already have signed. Robert Schoch's newest on the Sun is not published yet, and his Forgotten Civilizations I had autographed last year.

Saturday it was raining so hard so we went to the hotel for dinner, going back to the evening presentation. Saturday evening after the evening presentation, it was raining sideways with 75 mph wind. When I got out of the car at the hotel, I thought the wind had blown my glasses off my face, so we got soaked looking for them. We wanted to go to the lounge, but it was closed, with water dripping from the overhead lights in the lounge, dining room and hallways. It was hard to see, and realized my glasses were still on my face covered in water, which made me laugh. So my friends and me had a soaked adventure. Thank goodness the elevators were working, so I went up to my 12th floor room. Two women were in the elevator and I mentioned it would have been nice to have gone to the lounge, and one of the women nicely gave me a little bottle of red wine. My room was oceanfront, to enjoy watching the waves crash and the listen to the wind. However, the shower curtain was moving all by itself and the water in the toilet was moving.

Sunday morning the hotel dining room was closed because of storm damage and most of the help was either flooded out or the roads were closed. What to eat? I went into the dining room and found a manager who said there was continental breakfast in the lobby in the other building. Instead of walking across the parking lot in the hurricane, I took the elevator to the second floor, walked across the walkway which was still dripping water from the lights, and to the lobby in the other building. All I took was money for breakfast and reading glasses and was wearing clothes that I was to change from. While in the lobby, the manager told us the hotel would not take us to the conference because Atlantic Avenue, which is the street the hotel is on, was a lake, showing us pictures from his phone. Jerry Silva, the speaker for the day came in. He is friendly and sat with us. We joked that if we could not get to the A.R.E., he could give a talk in the hotel lobby. Then he stood up and walked away, talking on his phone, and I thought he may have been calling the A.R.E., he was. I knew I was not going anywhere because I did not want to miss his presentation, no matter what I was wearing. He told us an A.R.E. volunteer would get him and could take three people. Well, three of us followed him and hopped in the car. Atlantic Avenue was a lake, so the driver drove around it and we arrived at the conference, all of us wet. That wonderful woman made enough trips in her car to take the conferees at the hotel to the conference. The hotel would not use their shuttle, which is high off the ground, and she used her ordinary car, which got everybody there without incident.

Sunday morning an announcement was made that several airlines had cancelled flights from Norfolk. The auditorium was half full, which was surprising, given the weather conditions.  Jerry Silva gave two presentations on the resurrection, based on his book.

Robert Schoch and his wife, and Adrian Gilbert and his wife, had also been staying at the same hotel as I, which transferred them to a different hotel Sunday afternoon. They had stayed on the first and second floors, where the wind blew water through the air conditioner units onto the floors in their rooms. I wonder where they went because our hotel was one of the very few which had electricity.

After Mr. Silva's presentation the conference was over, we were hungry and wanted to see if just by chance Bubba's would be open. The flooding had subsided next to the A.R.E. Our friend who drove is a good driver and fearless, so off we went. The road was okay until we drove through the woods. The car waded through the same long stretch of water, but we got through. We saw the two cars that had gone off the road the day before and were still stuck. Oh, oh, the traffic lights were not working and there were no lights in the buildings. We finally saw one pizza parlor with lights on, so in we went. This turned out to be a blessing because I had the best pastrami and cheese sandwich ever, with my friends also having excellent food. We ordered "to go" so we would have had dinner. The owner obviously had a generator.  Locals were there because they had had no electricity for over five hours. It was fun because everybody was friendly. When we left, we could see businesses turning on lights one building strip at a time, but still no working traffic lights.

Sunday the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel was closed because of high winds. Once crossing it years ago, I was the last car across because the waves were crashing against the railings of the bridge. High winds are dangerous to trucks, RV's and some SUV's. Sometimes dolphins swim alongside, which has happened twice with me and is quite a thrill. There are two tunnels and it is great to actually drive under a ship crossing a tunnel.  If you click here you can see how it is.
Monday morning the hotel staff had done yeoman's work getting the dining room open. The storm was much worse than predicted. A gas line had been damaged, which mean no hot water for guests in the other building than mine, there was no laundry service and no clean towels. Public transportation was not running, and most of the staff had been flooded out. This morning there was only one place with a drip and some of the tables had been removed, but the dining room was open. After breakfast, my friends picked me up to go home. Of course, the weather was beautiful after the hurricane and we traveled home without incident.
