Meet King Capricorn

Capricorn is the sign of the winter solstice, when the Sun has reached its southern-most position in the sky, halts and turns north again. The winter solstice, the day the Sun halts, is the longest night and shortest day of the year. Luckily for us, the Sun is "out" just a little longer every day, increasing light to the earth. We can be happy for the extra light that King Capricorn symbolizes.

King Capricorn lives on a mountain where he can climb to his retreat when he wants. His knight is Knight Saturn, who helps King Capricorn slow us down to catch up with the travels we had with King Sagittarius.

The mountain is surrounded by a moat connected to the river and the sea so the water kings could use their water chariots as transportation.

Knight Saturn had constructed stone walls in concentric circles around the castle to mark the boundaries and to make sure they were safe. The kings arriving in their fire and air chariots would circle around the rings and land in a space just the right size for their chariots. The earth and water kings would arrive by land and water chariots and would be driven through doors in the rings to the landing yard. After they came through each door, a knight-in-training would close the doors so everyone would be secure.

The first to arrive was King Aries, who is first in almost everything, with fiery Knight Mars at the reigns of his fire chariot. They landed at the top of the mountain and parked their fire chariot in King Capricorn's chariot garage. Then quicksilver King Gemini and Knight Mercury arrived in their winged air chariot and began a spirited conversation with King Aries. King Libra arrived with Lady Venus in their sumptuous chariot, beautifully decked out with silks and jewels.

King Aquarius arrived next in his air chariot with Knight Uranus. Their chariot is shiningly different from the other chariots, with unusual angles and unusual fittings. King Sagittarius and Knight Jupiter arrived late because they had been in another part of the zodiac and had forgotten the time. King Leo and Knight Sun arrived last so they were sure to be noticed.

King Taurus arrived with Lady Venus in their land chariot at the bottom of the mountain to patiently wait for the others. King Cancer and Lady Moon arrived in their comfortable boat chariot and were met at the dock by knights-in-training of Knight Saturn.

King Virgo and Knight Mercury arrived in their precisely-carved land chariot and were quietly happy to see King Taurus with Lady Venus; and King Cancer with Lady Moon. They immediately began talking about food. King Scorpio arrived with Knight Pluto, stepping from his boat chariot and immediately began telling the other kings how he would manage everybody. His intensity did not sit too well with King Taurus who started to object, but Lady Venus diplomatically changed the conversation. King Virgo was glad to see King Scorpio, though, and talked about investments. King Pisces and Knight Neptune were nowhere to be seen, and it was near time to climb the mountain. Oh, look! Their chariot rose from beneath the waters, almost vaporous though dripping water When they joined the other kings, King Pisces had a quietly humorous comment that made everybody laugh. Knight Neptune was so ethereal he could hardly be seen holding his trident. King Pisces was happy to join his water-king friends, Cancer and Scorpio.

Since his castle is on the top of the mountain, King Capricorn had arranged to have sturdy chariots for the earth and water kings and their knights. Knight Saturn made sure everything was in good working order, with the chariots waiting on time. After they were all there, Knight Saturn began to plan the ride up the mountain. Knight Saturn explained that the Kings of fire and air were already there.

When they arrived inside the castle, they were pleased that King Capricorn had a nice fire, warm drinks and pre-dinner food for them. They were surprised, because they misunderstood King Capricorn's reticence for shyness and lack of social graces. King Capricorn is one of the leader kings and initiated conversation by talking about his ambitious building plans for his castle. King Capricorn is proud to be sort of an architect, skilled at creating blueprints for his endeavors. He then carefully builds in a timely manner, and all he builds would be strong and long-lasting.  The castle was not finished yet, so the gathering was in the just-right-sized assembly room.

King Aries challenged King Capricorn's ideas, but this was fun to King Capricorn. King Gemini was impatient with detail, so he listened for a short while and joined another group.  King Taurus talked about how much it would cost, but King Capricorn had that already figured out. King Cancer quietly offered his ideas on how to make the new castle more comfortable. Kings Cancer and Capricorn are opposites, but King Cancer and Lady Moon quietly intuit King Capricorn's feelings and try to make him emotionally comfortable.

King Leo thought King Capricorn's plans were good, but not quite opulent enough. King Virgo and King Capricorn get along well, both able to talk about the sequential progression of the plans that would be accomplished within budget. King Libra thought King Capricorn looked lonely and needed a companion, but King Capricorn's companion was discreet and did not make a show of herself. King Libra joined King Leo to talk about how they could make King Capricorn's castle opulently beautiful. That would have to wait, though, until the castle was finished. King Scorpio was proud of his ability to successfully organize, and talked with King Cancer and King Pisces about it.

King Sagittarius is gregarious, so he talked with all the other kings and knights, wowing everybody with talk about his galactic travels. He had an especially good time with King Aries and King Leo. King Aquarius is also social and enjoys his many friends. King Aquarius likes to manage and control groups, so he had good ideas about this event, which annoyed King Scorpio. King Aquarius knows how to plan for the future which seems abstract to emotional King Cancer and practical King Virgo. King Pisces eventually brought gentle humor and creative ideas to the evening in a pleasing way.

When it was time to leave, the fire and air kings gave the earth and water kings rides to the bottom of the mountain, which was thrilling to the more adventurous and a little scary to the more careful kings. We would like to say the more adventurous kings would be King Cancer who loves to be thrilled, and King Scorpio who is not afraid of anything. King Taurus was apprehensive about being above the ground, and King Virgo was not at ease with the casual way of the ride. King Pisces imagined it was like swimming under the water and he was okay.

They all said good night and planned to meet next at King Aquarius' castle.
